Camper vans equipped with a propane tank are not allowed to enter Manhattan, which considerably limits access to the heart of the city. Additionally, your camper van must not exceed 3 meters in height, as tunnels and covered bridges are prohibited for vehicles carrying more than 10 kg of propane gas. These restrictions make access to certain neighborhoods in Manhattan practically impossible, especially via the tunnels connecting the different boroughs.
In terms of overall dimensions, your vehicle must not measure more than 65 feet in total when connected to a trailer, and a motorhome must not exceed 45 feet. Certain roads like the Taconic State Parkway, which crosses the New York metropolitan area, prohibit commercial traffic, which includes camper vans and towed trailers. Also, adhere to speed limits identical to those of passenger cars and never cross the solid white lines that mark the lanes reserved for multi-occupancy vehicles.
Sleeping and connecting in New York
