The vehicle registration document and insurance covering Turkey must be presented to the authorities, especially at the border. Upon entry, a customs passage document (DPD) will be issued to you and must be kept throughout your stay. Speed limits are strict: 50 km/h in the city, 90 km/h outside urban areas, and 120 km/h on highways, such as the highway between Istanbul and Ankara. Toll payments are made via an electronic system called HGS, with a chip sticker to be affixed to the windshield, available at PTT post offices or highway service stations.

Sleeping and connecting in a campervan

Wild camping is widely tolerated in Turkey, especially in regions like Cappadocia or around Lake Van, provided you avoid national parks and private properties. It is prohibited to sleep in your vehicle in urban areas, so it is preferable to choose campgrounds or dedicated areas, such as those around Antalya or Izmir, where connection services are often available. Campgrounds vary in quality and generally cost between 8 and 15 euros per night. For electric recharges, it is advisable to check the compatibility of plugs and inquire locally, as infrastructure may be limited outside major cities.
