Traveling by campervan from Béziers: regulations and practical tips
France has imposed strict rules for campervans since January 2026, particularly in large urban areas. From Béziers, you need to be aware of the restrictions that apply when traveling to French and European metropolises.
Driving and regulations: ZFE restrictions to know
Campervans classified as Crit'Air 3 are now banned from the city centers of Paris, Lyon, and Marseille since January 2026. This ban affects diesel vehicles registered before 2011 and petrol models from before 2006. If your campervan falls into this category and you plan to approach urban centers from Béziers, you risk fines of up to 450 euros. The Crit'Air sticker remains mandatory in 42 French cities in 2026, and its absence is considered illegal circulation.
For drivers holding a B license, an important change is coming: since October 2025, the European directive allows the driving of campervans up to 4,250 kg with just a B license. However, France must transpose this measure between 2026 and 2028 by application decree. In the meantime, controls remain strict: a campervan exceeding 3.5 tons with a B license is subject to criminal penalties and a refusal of compensation by insurance in case of an accident.
